Little Red Riding Hood (also known as Red and Red Riding Hood) is one of the main protagonists of Super Why! and the co-leader of the Super Readers.
She is the titular main protagonist of the "Little Red Riding Hood" story who lives in a small red house near the forest. Red lives a few miles away from her grandmother, whom she loves very much. She also loves her puppy and red velvet cake. When she isn't hanging out with her friends, she can be found playing with her other friend, Little Boy Blue.
Personality[]
Red is a kind, friendly and caring young girl who tries to do whatever she can to help others; especially her friends. She can be childish from time to time, or temperamental when things don't go the way she had hoped. Even when she fails to express her intentions properly, though, they seem to always mean well in the end. Her top priority is always making others have a good time and cheering them up when they're down. Despite her cuteness and beauty, Red appears to be tomboyish, and isn't as feminine as most of the girls appear to be in the series. She is outspoken, bold and can be sassy every now and then. Even so, she doesn't mind doing things that Princess Pea or the other girls do either. She is very enthusiastic with most things, but seems to show some concern over not fitting in during certain events or situations. She eventually wants to be an amazing lead solo singer someday. In "The Ugly Duckling: Becoming a Swan", it is revealed that she wants to be an Olympic gold medalist skater when she is older.
Someday she wants to sing a hit song while skating on the ice in front of an entire crowded stadium as a music video where she can also dissolve while she sings and skates and can fly in front of the whole stadium while she sings and skates.
Appearance[]
Red has fair skin and a scattering of freckles below each brown eye. She has long brown hair worn in low pigtails held by red scrunchies with her bangs loosely brushed at the center of her forehead. She is often depicted with a red helmet/hat. Her normal outfit consists of a red parka with white lining, pocket flaps, a string at the center of her neck, a red pleat skirt, red Mary-jane shoes with short white socks and built-in roller skates.
Other outfits[]
- When going to the beach, she wears a tank top and shorts with red and orange accents. She also adorns a purple belt, a scuba-diving mask, and swim shoes with pink and purple accents.
- For Halloween, she is dressed like a witch. Therefore, she wore a traditional witch's hat and a black cape.
- In one episode, when imagining an older version of herself in the future while also thinking of a career, she was shown to look the same. However, she wore a purple top and skates with red shorts.
- In "Little Red Riding Hood", Red in her storybook is identical to what she looks like in Storybook Village. However, she's seen in her traditional fairytale outfit, complete with a red hooded cape, light red sleeves, and red Mary Jane shoes instead of her classic red roller skate shoes.
- When practicing soccer, she wears a red soccer shirt, shorts, and black soccer shoes.
Wonder Red[]
Transformed, Red becomes a super hero named "Wonder Red". With her Word Power, she is able to transform an item into something else, remove the item, alter the item's shape or use it to find the correct item she needs. She is able to do this by using her Wonder Words Basket, and singing a small rhyme while thinking of what she needs. Initially in "The Story of the Super Readers", she was able to transform words from her special Wonder Words Basket into items, following that she created her song herself.
As Wonder Red, Red's hair is inflated in braided pigtails and her hat becomes a red and purple helmet. Her shoes that are built-in roller skates turn into regular purple roller skates accented by lavender and red, while her outfit is now a purple and red leotard with a red belt with a spiral in the center. She wears a long, flowing red cape, a pair of purple and red skate gloves, and a pair of kneepads for protection.
In the syndicated version, sparkles were added to her costume to match Princess Presto's outfit.
Wonder Red's Why Flyer resembles an airborne scooter. It's red with purple lining, wings, parts on top, seat, and heels underneath. Her Why Flyer lacks the glass piece in front of her, due to her holding onto its handles when flying around. A spiral mark is on the front to match her belt. The question mark trail that flies from the Why Flyer is a scarlet-red color.
In an unaired episode in 2007 at the pool, she would be wearing a 2 piece swimsuit.
Family[]
Red lives some distance away from her grandmother, her only known relative. Even though Red's parents are obviously around, there is no information about them. It is unknown whether she lives with one or both parents.
Red cares deeply for her Grandma. She loves to help her and tries to think of new ways to show her how much she cares about her. She also loves to eat Grandma's delicious snacks!
Red also has a pet puppy she is sometimes seen with near the end of Season 1 when she gets her. Unlike Whyatt's super dog Woofster, however, Red's puppy is not part of the Super Readers group.

Trivia[]
- Red is one of the only main characters to have an American accent.
- She is the second Super Reader after Alpha Pig to sing a musical number as part of her powers.
- Out of the four main Super Readers, Red gets the least moments of using her powers. Possibly to make up for this, she gets a lot of lines in the episodes and seems to be the Super Readers' 2nd-in-command, behind Whyatt.
- Episodes featuring Whyatt encountering a problem at the start of the episode often have Red take command, and she'll ask Whyatt what the problem is: "Okay, Whyatt. State your problem". This also applies for whenever all four main characters together encounter the problem, during which Red says, "Okay, Whyatt. State our problem".
- However, Season 2 episodes featuring the whole group encountering the problem still feature Whyatt taking command as usual. In these events, it would go under two scenarios:
- Episodes featuring Whyatt encountering a problem at the start of the episode often have Red take command, and she'll ask Whyatt what the problem is: "Okay, Whyatt. State your problem". This also applies for whenever all four main characters together encounter the problem, during which Red says, "Okay, Whyatt. State our problem".
- There's some confusion about her second color while she is Wonder Red. It looks to be a royal blue color but upon closer inspection, it's actually purple. Many merchandise or official images will confirm this upon close inspection.
- When she grows up, Red wants to win a gold medal/award for winning skating competitions in the future.
- Whenever Red's house is seen in the show, her mailbox has mail sticking out of it. In one episode, it was revealed there was always one envelope in the mailbox. It's still unknown, but her parents are likely at work, and the mail would likely belong to them.
- In the episode "Judith's Happy Chanukah", it's revealed that Red is Jewish, because she celebrates Hanukkah with her Grandma.
- Red is known as "Cerise" in the French dub of the show before the name of a supervillain who wields the butterfly brooch of Monarch in Miraculous Ladybug.
- Though Red didn't actually appear in the Super Why pilot contrary to popular belief, Wonder Red's final character design is based on Willa, one of the pilot's supporting cast.
- Despite the fact that Wonder Red wears a cape like the others, she's the only Super Reader who doesn't have the ability to fly. This is because she has special roller blades that allow her to roll faster.
- She, Alpha Pig, and Princess Presto are the only ones to make a crossover combination of their word, alphabet, and spelling power segment in the episodes "Webby in Bathland", "Bedtime for Bear", "Roxie's Missing Music Book", "The Banana Mystery", and "The Cowgirl Mystery".
